Preventive Dental Hygiene
Regular oral examinations and hygiene cleanings at Valley Centre Dental Clinic in Whitecourt can help you prevent any dental issues and keep your smile healthy.
Oral Examinations
Ideally, your dentist would see you twice a year so they could identify any oral health conditions that may occur and create a plan to treat them accordingly.
During your appointment, your dentist will examine the health of your teeth, gums, jaw and bite. Exams may also include dental x-rays, an oral cancer screening and other diagnostic procedures.
Oral Cancer Screening
Oral cancer can impact any part of the mouth or surrounding tissues. During your exam, your dentist will check the face, tongue, lips, neck, throat, tissues, and gums for any signs of oral cancer which are difficult to detect with the naked eye.
Oral Health Care at Home
At-home care is key to your oral health. To keep your smile healthy between dental appointments, brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes each time, and floss at least once a day.
Hygiene Cleaning
Before or after your exam, your dental hygienist will complete a deep cleaning of your teeth and gums to prevent and treat disease.
To start, they will use a scaler to remove any tartar and plaque build-up. Next, they will use a polisher and coarse toothpaste to eliminate any remaining plaque or stains, followed by a thorough flossing of your teeth and gums.
Fluoride Treatment
If your dentist identifies you or your child as being at high risk of tooth decay,
they may recommend a fluoride treatment. Fluoride is a natural mineral that can help to rebuild the minerals in your tooth enamel to protect your teeth from decay.
